The forward-thinking telco used stimulus funding to deploy a modern 10 Gigabit fiber optic network in their rural service areas, connecting all the towns they serve.

To leverage this upgrade, MLGC sought out a cost-effective IP video processing and transcoding solution that would allow the independent telco to deliver digital cable TV services from one master facility to all of its customers in remote communities. The Inca solution enabled MLGC to provide premium digital TV and music offerings to its full service area, while expanding from 36 to 150 channels.

“With the Inca platform, we are seeing significant cost savings, reduced maintenance, and regularly receive feedback from satisfied customers who are impressed with the excellent picture quality of the HD channels we now offer,” says Tyler Kilde, General Manager of MLGC.

MLGC uses Inca MPEG-4 HD transcoders to affordably optimize the format, resolution, and bit rate of HD and SD satellite and off-air sources and deliver them to the five communities they serve. Inca video reception equipment also receives, demultiplexes, and processes the local HD and SD off-air broadcast channels. With a modern IP video centric headend now in place, the North Dakota CLEC is ideally positioned to add multiscreen services in the future. Video is a low margin business, so finding high quality, affordable and future proof solutions is key.

“We were very surprised how easy the Inca system was to install and deploy. While it was the elegance and power of the Inca VidiOS™ software tools that initially sold us, it has been the economics of the solution that has exceeded our expectations; we even save money on our electricity bills,” adds Kilde.

“Due to our unique and powerful VidiOS software, Inca equipment provides the flexibility and scalability needed for video providers to affordably and seamlessly upgrade their networks from legacy infrastructure to the latest IP video and multiscreen capabilities,” said Jeff Campbell, Inca Networks CEO.

“We are proud to be an integral part of MLGC’s successful video delivery strategy.”

About MLGC

Moore & Liberty Telephone Company and Griggs County Telephone were both established in 1906.
