Vancouver, CANADA, March 30th, 2023 – Gulfsat Communications, a market leader in communication services for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), selected WISI Communications, a global leader in video delivery technology, to power their new IP video network. By utilizing WISI’s video platforms, Gulfsat was able to replace multiple racks of equipment, resulting in big savings in space, power, and operational costs.

Established in 1995 as a pioneer in the delivery of satellite communication services, Gulfsat’s global fiber and satellite cloud infrastructure enables them to deliver content worldwide. Gulfsat took full advantage of converting to IP by additionally migrating to SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) for low-latency and secure video delivery. SRT is an open-source video transport protocol that can be used to deliver high-quality, low-latency video across the internet.

Gulfsat was already well versed with WISI’s Chameleon Headend Platform for Satellite & IP contribution so when it came time for their IP and SRT project, Gulfsat was confident WISI could provide a solid end-to-end solution. WISI’s high-density modular solutions, the Inca IP Video Platform and Tangram Video Platform, were selected for their powerful SRT capabilities to replace the legacy equipment.

“We were looking for a platform that was stable and dependable, that we could count on. We needed to be able to send and receive video with SRT delivery and have the flexibility to choose multiple applications. With the Inca and Tangram platforms, we were impressed with the performance and the fact that you don’t need to install new hardware to launch new features,” said Danish Faraz, Broadcast Core Expert for Gulfsat Communications.

Gulfsat sends and receives video streams from multiple countries at their worldwide pops in Europe, US, Middle east. Gulfsat was able to use SRT to increase the efficiency of the video delivery process from different locations, while maintaining exceptional video quality.

The Inca IP Video Platform is a live linear and ABR solution with options for SRT delivery, transcode, ABR reception, and more. The Inca Platform specializes in bridging the gap between current and future video technologies, and easily replaces racks of equipment with one sophisticated single RU chassis. Inca users profit from a modern user interface and modular architecture with the ability to upgrade functionality at any time. Easy module changes and software upgrades make this solution super versatile.

Gulfsat is also using WISI’s Tangram Video Platform for multiplexing contribution streams before passing them to the Inca Platform for SRT transport.

“WISI’s platforms have given us huge savings in space and power costs. We recommend the Chameleon, Tangram and Inca Platforms to our broadcast partners, to send and receive SRT streams over the internet,” said Faraz.

The Chameleon shines for low-density applications, direct connections to broadcasters, and for content insertion. Operators use the Chameleon to encode local content and add additional video services to channel line-ups.

“We are excited to work on another deployment with Gulfsat Communications and to help future-proof their video network. With the Inca Platform in place, they now can switch applications as business needs grow and we look forward to continuing to support them with their video services,” said Ali Ghosein, General Manager for the Middle East at WISI Communications.
